  • Project Plan
In order to keep track of what needs to happen, when, the costs and resources needed, the equipment that needs to be rented, who needs to be hired and hundreds of other details, I decided to create a project plan. This is a major outcome of this phase and will facilitate the management of the implementation phase.
In order to stay within the intention of the project to be a demonstration site, one of its main strategic qualities, and our time schedule and resource availability, we decided to focus on the front yard, the deck on the East side and North side and on increasing our ability to grow more of our own food. This, and the experience of needing to overlap the different design cycle phases constantly, lead me to add an incremental process to the planning of the project. The article "Project Plan Design Process" gives a detailed description how this process was applied in creating the project plan.
  • Budget Plan
Based on the economic and financial thinking as described earlier and the cost estimates or figures and time when needed from the project plan a budget plan was created in a spreadsheet that shows when and how much finances will be needed and how we are going to cover the expenses.
  • Photos
    • Property. More property pictures of the property from different sides and angels and with different elements.
  • Drawings, Plans and Maps
Drawings, sketches, design ideas, elements, etc. As there was not enough time to learn more how to use SketchUp I did not use this tool for this output and hope to be able to pick it back up for the future phases in the coming years.
  • Articles
  • Lists
The worksheet containing the following lists and charts in this spreadsheet (MS Excel) have been only slightly updated from the version in the survey:
    • Indicators
At this point these measurable indicators will not be developed to any extend this year. We have additional people living in our house, that make it quite difficult to implement, the numbers can not be compared to our normal living situation and there is just not enough time to properly design a working system.
    • Utility Usage 2006
Chart and graphic of usage of water, sewage, electricity, gas, street light, garbage and phone. Another area where the additional people living in our home and the large amount of unusual work on our property is going to make this chart not very useful to measure the achieved energy footprint reduction. Once the situation is back to our standard situation, this will have more value.
    • Lifestyle Choices
Ideas how to reduce our ecological footprint by changing our behavior.
    • Info Resources
    • Local Resources
List of locally available materials, information, etc.
    • Project Plan, phase 2 - 4
A current list of all the different elements and tasks we are interested to potentially implement from phase 2 on forward. The phase 1 plan is moved into a separate spreadsheet. The order (priority), the timeline, estimates for cost, financial resource needs, needs of external help from contractors or others, etc. will be added in later years in the respective phase.
    • Advisors. Potential and chosen advisors, mentors, specialists, experts, etc. A list of criteria for selection needs to be added.
    • Equipment
A list of equipment we are considering to acquire and what for or what function and criteria we are looking for.
    • Plants
List of plants to be integrated in the design and implementation.
  • Journal
    • My IESD blog. For this phase I originally wrote journal entries in Noodle that does not have the same features as the system (Jot spot) I have been using. I copied the entry from the Noodle Journal into an entry in this bog.
  • Publicity
The flyer for our first neighborhood potluck is the only publication that has been realized so far.
